Cartoon Undercover Morality Patrol 2016 Kaveh Adel Cartoonist
The next chapter in 1984 is playing out in Iran today. Two female MP’s in the Iranian Parliament, Sakineh Omrani and Laleh Eftekhari, claim that “people asked for it” to have enforcement of Islamic dress code.
This time the proposal is going further to create a secret, undercover citizens’ organization to report those who transgress the “code” to the authorities to face proper punishment, or as they call it “promoters of virtue”!
It is odd that such measures always punish the women. Of course, if this chauvinistic proposal allegedly comes from women then it must be grounded in truth and not to serve the men who fail to control their own libido.
I remember the day when women demonstrated in the street for their own rights…. it is disheartening to see such regression in my lifetime, in my homeland suffocating the civil liberties of a beautiful people.
Love and peace,
