A daughter drowned in Dubai while her father looked on.

He did not want her to be touched by rescuers as it would “dishonor” her.

May she rest in peace. May he live with the weight of the inhumanity that his piety bestowed upon his daughter.

It is a mad world we live in.

To love and humanity,

Kaveh

  • Heartbreaking. This needless death once again highlights the tragic consequences of grafting traditional culture onto personal faith in order to impose religion-as-social-control. Such twisting of spirituality into a weapon of the powerful against the powerless is not limited to Islam. The results are universally destructive to all societies that buy into them regardless of whether that religious tradition be Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, or whatever. And the victims are not only the less powerful (the poor, minorities, women, etc.) but also the very perpetrators of these spiritual perversions who in many cases do not even recognize the personal consequences they themselves pay for such destructiveness in the name of a corrupted faith.
